The Ramintra Sports Park is envisioned as a pioneering project that serves as a blueprint for future flood resilience initiatives. This park, which has historically been susceptible to flooding during heavy rains and monsoon seasons, has been transformed into a multifunctional space that addresses both environmental challenges and community needs.
The design of the park integrates innovative water management strategies, focusing on the combination of Nature-Based Solutions and advanced underground water storage systems, known as the Water Bank. The park utilizes two primary components: Delay and Store, to manage water flow efficiently, mitigating flood risks while enhancing the natural landscape.
Beyond flood management, Ramintra Sports Park is designed to offer the local community a vibrant space for recreation, learning, and social interaction. It provides a unique opportunity to engage with sustainable practices, learn about environmental stewardship, and participate in community-driven activities. Over the past 30 years, the area had deteriorated due to waste accumulation, but it has now been revitalized into a thriving pocket park that encourages community engagement and fosters a deeper connection to the environment.
This project not only reduces the frequency and severity of flood events but also creates new avenues for social, economic, governance, and policy advancements. The Ramintra Sports Park stands as a model for integrating urban resilience with community development, turning a once-neglected space into a hub of sustainability and learning.
